We understand that managing funeral expenses can be  overwhelming, especially during times of grief. Below, you'll find detailed information on available options for financial assistance:

1. The Social Fund

The Social Fund through the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) is designed to assist individuals with limited income who may struggle to cover sudden and unexpected expenses like funeral costs. While funds are available, they are subject to certain limitations.

2. Bereavement Payments

  • Bereavement Payments are available to individuals whose spouse or civil partner has passed away. This one-time, tax-free lump sum payment amounts to £2,000 (if the deceased under the age of 65).

  • You may be eligible for Bereavement Payment if your spouse or civil partner made National Insurance contributions (NICs), or if their death was work-related, under specific conditions.

  • Bereavement Payment is not available under certain circumstances, such as divorce from your late spouse or partner, cohabitation without a formal marital or civil partnership relationship, or incarceration.
